I am a hunter
As a hunter, you know the bond with your dog runs deep. Being a responsible guardian isn’t just the law—it’s part of the hunting tradition. Here’s what you need to know for 2025:
- Microchip & Register Your Hunting Dog
- To protect your dog and prove responsible ownership:
- Microchipping and registration in the National Pet Registry (EMZS) are mandatory.
- Failing to do so could cost you 300€.
- At the vet, bring your hunting license so your dog is officially recorded as a hunting dog in the EMZS.
- Choose: Neuter or DNA Sample
- By January 1st, 2025, all dogs must:
- Be neutered, or
- Have a DNA sample submitted to the National Companion Animal Genetic Material Lab.
- Failing to provide DNA or neuter by January 1st 2025 exposes you to a 1000€ fine.
- DNA is just a small blood sample:
- The sample must be collected by a veterinarian
- Register your dog as a hunting dog (bring license to vet)
- Pay the €40 fee per dog via e-Paravolo (reduced for hunters)
- Up to €50 vet fee (plus shipping to the lab).
- In case these specific costs are modified, it is recommended that you stay in contact with your local hunting association to remain informed about any updates.
- Hunting Season = Full Responsibility
- Abandoning a dog after the season is illegal and punishable.
- Your transport must be clean, safe, and comfortable.
- Shock collars for training are banned.
- Keep Your Dog Healthy & Safe
- Provide Proper Nutrition & Care:

- Avoid harmful foods like chocolate, grapes, and garlic!
- Regular veterinary care is crucial to prevent diseases and ensure a long, happy life.
- Offer a Safe, Comfortable Living Space:
- Dogs need secure shelter—no barrels or unsafe structures.
- Tethering dogs for longer than 2 hours can result in hefty fines of 1000€
- Daily exercise is vital.
- Health & Hygiene
- Deworm regularly and keep up with vaccinations, including rabies.
- Annual vet visits are required by law and protect your pet from serious health risks.
- Keep your pet’s health records updated. Non-compliance could cost you 1000€
- Provide Proper Nutrition & Care:
What’s at Stake?
