I am a teacher
Teachers, You Hold the Key to a Kinder Future – Start with Animal Welfare.
As educators, you shape the values of the next generation. That’s why your role in teaching animal welfare is vital—not just for the well-being of animals, but for building a more compassionate, healthier, safer and responsible society.
What You Can Teach:
- Why animal welfare matters – Every living being deserves kindness and respect.
- Responsible pet ownership – 1.) Microchip and register, and 2.) neuter pets—or alternatively, submit DNA if neutering is not wanted or possoble. Provide proper food, clean water, shelter, and veterinary care.
- How to prevent strays – Teach empathy early and promote responsible ownership to break the cycle of abandonment and overbreeding.
- Spotting and reporting abuse – Know the signs, prevent and know the law (Law 4830/2021).
- Safe interaction with strays – Promote calm, cautious behavior to avoid accidents and promote kindness.
- Empathy, ethics, and care—values that echo far beyond the classroom.
What You Should Know:
- Law 4830/2021 defines owners’ duties: 1) mandatory microchipping and registration, 2) Mandatoiry neutering or providing DNA, 3) Care.
- Abuse is punishable—report neglect or violence to authorities.
- Stray animals are a result of overbreeding and abandonment. Teach humane, sustainable solutions: microchip, neuter, adopt, support shelters.
How to Bring It Into Your Classroom:
- Integrate animal welfare into language, social studies, and environmental lessons.
- Use stories, videos, and creative projects.
- Invite local animal welfare groups to speak.
- Involve parents and the community.
- Promote respect for animals in the school environment.
