Sterilization or DNA – not abandonment
The Law is clear: Spay/Neuter or DNA – No to abandonment.
Law 4830/2021 | Reproduction is not a random matter.
Every uncontrolled birth leads to more stray animals.
Every “it’s still too young” or “I’ll find homes for them”… usually doesn’t happen.
According to Law 4830/2021:
Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all companion animals.
Unless the guardian chooses the DNA alternative:
– They may submit the animal’s genetic material (DNA) to the National Laboratory for the Preservation and Analysis of Genetic Material (E.F.A.G.Y.Z.S.).
– They are obliged to prevent unwanted reproduction.
– They are fully responsible for any offspring genetically linked to their animal.
Additionally:
Reproduction is only allowed with a special license and under strict conditions.
Violating the law leads to a €3,000 fine, and abandoning newborns can result in fines up to €50,000 and criminal charges.
Spay/neuter – or at least submit DNA. But protect the animal.
Η αμέλεια δεν είναι δικαιολογία. Είναι συνένοχη.
